The company was founded in 1924 as the Dassler Brothers Shoe Factory based on the development of spiked sprinting shoes. The brothers split in 1949, one establishing Adidas, the other created Puma. Adidas is known for the 3 stripes branding and has become a powerhouse in not only the shoe market but apparel and sporting accessories. Today it is a billion dollar company.
